I was looking for the wrong words…

Growing up, my father rarely said the words, “I love you.” In fact, it wasn’t until I was an adult that I heard him say them to me. It was something I yearned to hear, especially as a child when I was navigating the complex landscape of emotions and insecurities. I often wondered if he cared about us, if he loved us in the way that other fathers expressed their affection. But as I grew older, I came to understand that my father had a different way of showing his love — a love that was deeply rooted in his actions, his care, and his unwavering commitment to our well-being.

My dad is a man of few words, but his actions speak volumes. He believes in the power of responsibility and self-reliance. Every morning, without fail, he would make sure we were all up and ready for the day. He’d wake us up gently, with a firm but loving hand on our shoulders, urging us to rise and shine. It was his way of instilling discipline and punctuality in us, lessons that would serve us well in life.

Breakfast was another one of his daily rituals. He made sure there was something to eat before we left for school or work. He’d prepare a hearty breakfast, sometimes simple scrambled eggs and toast, other times a more…
